Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of peer tutoring method on cognitive abilities and motivation of student learning. The method used was a quasiexperimental design with randomized control group only. This study was conducted at SMP Negeri 1 Kragilan the second semester seventh grade school year 2013/2014. The sampling technique used in this study is random sampling. Research data retrieval using cognitive ability tests and learning motivation questionnaire. The average value of the cognitive abilities of students in the experimental class at 72.67 with good criterion while the control class is 56.33 with a sufficient criterion. Average grades for motivation to learn in classroom experiments for 77.71 with a good criterion of 70.49 while the control class with sufficient criteria. Analysis of the results of hypothesis testing using t-test at significance level α = 0.05 significance obtained 0.000 for cognitive abilities and motivation for 0000 to learn, it can be concluded the use of peer tutoring methods affect the cognitive abilities and motivation of students to the concept of environmental pollution at SMPN1 Kragilan.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh metode tutor sebaya terhadap kemampuan kognitif dan motivasi belajar siswa. Metode yang digunakan adalah kuasi eksperimen dengan desain Randomized control group only. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di SMP Negeri 1 Kragilan pada kelas VII semester II tahun pelajaran 2013/2014. Teknik pengambilan sampel yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Random Sampling. Pengambilan data penelitian menggunakan tes kemampuan kognitif dan angket motivasi belajar. Nilai ratarata kemampuan kognitif siswa pada kelas eksperimen sebesar 72,67 dengan kriteria baik sedangkan pada kelas kontrol sebesar 56,33 dengan kriteria cukup. Perolehan nilai rata-rata untuk motivasi belajar pada kelas eksperimen sebesar 77,71 dengan kriteria baik sedangkan kelas kontrol sebesar 70,49 dengan kriteria cukup. Hasil Analisis uji hipotesis menggunakan uji t pada taraf signifikasi α = 0,05 diperoleh signifikansi 0.000 untuk kemampuan kognitif dan sebesar 0.000 untuk motivasi belajar, maka dapat disimpulkan penggunaan metode tutor sebaya berpengaruh terhadap kemampuan kognitif dan motivasi belajar siswa pada konsep pencemaran lingkungan di SMPN 1 Kragilan.
