Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out the effect of Pre-Questioning on Students' reading comprehension. In this research, the researcher compared the significant improvement between using pre-questioning and without pre-questioning. The researcher used quantitative method through quasi experimental design. Population of this research was all of students' at the first grade of SMKN 1 Kragilan academic years 2013/2014. The samples were class X TKJ-1 as an experimental class and class X TKJ-2 as control class, the researcher used cluster sampling. In experimental class, the researcher taught reading comprehension by using pre-questioning, and for control class without pre-questioning. The instrument of this research was test; pre test and post test. The result of comparison between the pretest and postest show that the average of pretest was 6.2 but in control class the averages score of pretest was 6.0 and while the posttest increasing in experimental class the average score become 8.1 in control class the average score was 6.5, the result of hypotesis test (ttest) also used to know whether there was significant improvement or not after the researcher did a research. Based on the result of calculation, it can be seen that tcount>ttable or 4.624>1.668. It was meant there was significant improvement in student reading comprehension after being taught by using pre-questioning. Therefore, the alternative hypothesis (H2) was received and the null hypothesis (H2) was refused. Furthermore, the percentage score gaining of experimental class that used pre-questioning was 23,7%, while control class was 7,69%. It meant that score gaining at experimental class is higher than control class. So that, pre-questioning as media was effective to improve students' reading comprehension at the first grade of SMK Negeri 1 Kragilan.
