Abstract
Superabsorbent Hidrogel based on poly(potassium acrylate) is one of hidrogel which has great swelling capacity. In this research, Synthesis ofSuperabsorbent Hidrogel modified with chitosan as a natural polymer. The function of chitosan as additive material was to repair degradation of synthetic polymer. Purposes of this research are Synthesis of Superabsorbent Hidrogel modified chitosan with gamma irradiation and test the ability of degradation in thermal and natural. Method in this research begin with preparation material. First, mixing 15 ml potassium acrylate solution, 85 ml aquades and chitosan with variation 0,5; 1; 1,5 and 2 g chitosan, then radiation the mixture with gamma-ray with dose 5 kGy. In the other, Hydrogel added chitosan 0,5 g irradiate by 5, 10, 15 and 20 kGy.Kind of chitosan was pharmacy grade. Hydrogel Product which has good absorption is hidrogel with 0,5 g chitosan and dose 5 kGy. The capacity was 583,3 g water/g dry hidrogel. Degradation of this product better than product without chitosan. Keyword : Superabsorben hydrogel, kalium acrylate, chitosan, gamma irradiate, biodegradation.
