Abstract

is caused by several things: the media are restricted and less relevant in the aim of learning, especially in improving cognitive abilities, methods and strategies teachers have not varied in the learning process and still lack teacher's creativity in providing a learning tool menunjuang cognitive activity of children, especially in the use of instructional media. This study uses classroom action research. Subject of the study consisted of 11 children in kindergarten Pelita Insan Madani Serang City housing complex located in Banten Persada RT 06 RW 07, Block D1 No. 26 Serang. Data collected by observation, interviews, field notes and documentation. The research was carried 2 cycles of the first cycle consists of 8 times the action and the second cycle comprises 4 times the action. Based on research data analysis and discussion, the result that through the media beam cognitive abilities of children at pre-study was 33%, cycle 1 is 45%, while in the second cycle be equal to 79%. Ability indicated the child was changed after the given action. Children are more happy and enthusiastic in participating in learning activities and more confident in recognizing shapes, colors and sizes. For it can be concluded that by using the media beams can improve cognitive 5-6 years old children in kindergarten Pelita Insan Madani Serang. , Keywords: cognitive abilities, media blocks, children aged 5-6 years
