Abstract

This research aimed to figure out the influence of English poetry in teaching students’ pronunciation skill. The research design in this research used was quantitative approach specifically true experimental design. The population used in this research was the students of the eighth grade of SMPN 10 Kota Serang in academic year 2015/2016. The research sampling was 8A and 8B, 8A as the control class and 8B as experimental class. The sample was selected by cluster random sampling from the population. So, the selected samples were 36 in Control class and 36 students in Experimental class. The instrument of research was test which administered into two forms pre-test and post-test. To get the validity and reliability in this research, the researcher used content validity and inter-rater reliability in order to make the instruments was valid and reliable. After doing this research, it can be seen that the experimental class who got English poetry as the treatment showed the difference score from the control class. It was supported by T-test. This calculation showed the result of is higher than (70.07 ≥ 1.99) with the significance 0.05. it can be concluded that the English poetry has an influence in teaching students’ pronunciation skill and it can be used as the alternative media in teaching English especially pronunciation with focused on segmental features (vowel)
