Abstract

The are many fishing gears that were used by fishermen in northern coastal of Serang City, one of them is sero. Productivity of sero in Serang city relates to the composition of the catches. The purpose of this research is to analysis the composition of sero. The survey and field observation were used in this research at January 24th to February 16th 2015. Sero fishing vessel that was used made from Schima wallichi wood with dimension (LOA x B x D), 12.0 x 2.4 x 0.70 m. Sero has leader net 200 m in length, 30 m of wing, width of 8 m and 2 m entrance. Leader net, wings, body and crib using PE Multifilament with a mesh size of 1.5 inch, 1.5 inch, 1.25 inch and 1.25 inch respectively. Fishing operation consist of setting, soaking, and hauling. The results showed that 1,421 fish was caught consisting of 38 species with a total weight of 57,066 g. The dominant of main catches are Penaeus merguiensis at 36.59% and Loligo sp. for 5.14%. The by catch was dominanted by Gazza minuta as 7.32% and Portunus pelagicus totaled 0.77%. Keywords: catch composition, Serang City, sero, Penaeus merguiensis
