Abstract

The background of this research was based on students’ problems in the process of reading English text. The objective of this research was to investigate whether or not there is a significant influence of Listen-Read-Discusse (LRD) strategy toward students’ reading comprehension at the 11th grade students of MAN 2 Kota Serang, and to know the students’ response in using Listen-Read-Discusse (LRD) strategy toward students’ reading comprehension at the 11th grade students of MAN 2 Kota Serang. This research used mix method with concurrent design. The population of this research was 11th grade students of MAN 2 Kota Serang in academic year 2014/2015. Two classes were taken as the sample of this research, namely XI IPA 4 as control class and XI IPA 5 as experimental class. The control class was taught by using silent reading and experimental class was taught by using Listen-Read-Discusse (LRD) strategy. The data of this research was collected by giving tests namely pre-test and post-test and analyzed by using independent ttest, also coducted observation in two times while the treatment was doing. Based on the students’ reading score, it showed the value of ttest was 2.79 and ttable was 1.99 at level significant 0.05 (5%) and the degree of freedom was 70. Ttest was higher than ttable or 2.79 ≥ 1.99. the result of observation also showed that students’ had positive response. It meant that the alternative hypothesis alternative (Ha) was accepted, then the students’ also had positive response in teaching and learning process by using Listen-read-Discusse (LRD) strategy. Therefore, it can be concluded that there was a significant influence of Listen-Read-Discusse (LRD) strategy toward students’ reading comprehension at the 11th grade students of MAN 2 Kota Serang.
