Abstract

The objective of this research was to know whether there is any significant influence of clustering technique toward students’ narrative text writing. The design used in this research was experimental design by using one-group pretestposttest design. The population of this research was the whole second grade of SMPN6Kota Serang consisting of 342students.The samples were chosen based oncluster random technique. Class VIII D – VIII E were chosen as the samples, VIII D as experimental group and VIII E as control group. Total of the sample were 76 students which were divided into two classes equally. To collect the data, pretest and posttest were used. In the tests students were asked to write narrative text about fairy tale. In analyzing the data, the researcher used SPSS v.16. There were several steps in the data analysis. First, to know the validity of the test content validity was used. To know the reliability of the test Cohen’s Kappa Coefficient was used to test the inter rater reliability. To find out the influence of clustering technique toward students’ narrative text writing T-test was used. The analysis showed that T-count>T-table (2.985>2.042) and the level of significant (2-tailed) was 0.004 while the alpha level was 0.05. It showed that sig. (2-tailed) was not higher than the alpha level (0.004 < 0.05). It can be inferred that the null hypothesis is rejected. It can be summed up that clustering technique gave significant influence toward students’ narrative text writing in experimental group.
