Abstract
This aim of this research was to analyze the use of mind mapping technique teaching writing descriptive text at the eighth grade SMPN 5 Kota Tangerang in the academic year of 2016/2017. This study was case study research. The subject of the research was the students of VIII F class. The researcher used observation, questionnaire and interview as the instruments to collect the data. The result showed that by using mind mapping technique, the students could produce descriptive texts systematically with appropriate of sentence structure and vocabulary. Based on the result of observation sheets, the students enthusiastically followed the teaching and learning process. From the result of questionnaire, the most of all students liked mind mapping technique in learning writing descriptive text. The result of interview showed that mind mapping technique was effective in teaching writing descriptive text. It means that mind mapping technique was successful in teaching writing descriptive text at the eighth grade of SMPN 5 Kota Tangerang
