Abstract

Lokan is the shellfish which can live in the river and estuary waters with low salinity of 2-4 ‰. Lokan also remove water from the body to adapt. Fluid emitted by lokan as a means of self-defense is a type of bioactive compounds. The bioactive compounds may include alkaloids, steroids and flavonoids which can be used as antibacterial pathogen. Utilization of lokan extract suggested that the shellfish has an active compound and bioactive components as antibacterial compounds. The study was conducted in July-October 2014. Data were analyzed by analysis of description. Yield results lokan extract with hexane solvent at 0.56384%, 0.65896% ethyl acetate extract and methanol extract of 2.54056%. The chemical composition of lokan has a moisture content of 84%, ash content of 1.43%, a protein content of 10.19% and 0.92% fat content. Phytochemical test of Results contained in the extract lokan is steroids, flavonoids, saponins and phenolic hydroquinone. Antibacterial activity test of lokan extract with a hexane solvent showed no zone of inhibition in inhibiting the bacteria Escherichia coli, Salmonella thyphimurium, Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus cereus. Lokan extract with ethyl acetate solvent has antibacterial activity to E. coli bacteria (medium), S. thyphimurium (weak), S. aureus (medium) and B. cereus (strong). Methanol extracts have antibacterial activity to bacteria S. thyphimurium (weak), S. aureus (medium) and B. cereus (medium). Keyword: Antibacterial, lokan, bacteria.
