Abstract
The objectives of the research were to describe the process of improving students’ writing procedure text by using picture series and to know the students’ result on writing procedure text by using picture series at the seventh grade of SMPN 6 Cilegon. The research methodology was classroom action research (CAR). The implementation of classroom action research was conducted in two cycles. There were cycle I and cycle II. Each cycle consisted of three meetings. This research involved the students of VII C which consisted of 36 students. The instruments used in collecting the data were observation, test (pre-test and post-test), and documentation. The process of teaching and learning activities ran very well because the students gave good and positive responses. They were also very enthusiastic and active in teaching and learning activities. Meanwhile, the result of this research showed that picture series had given the improvement to the students’ ability in writing procedure text. It can be seen from the result of pre-test, post-test I, and post-test II. The average of pre-test was 55.69. While, after giving treatment in cycle I, the students’ average score in post-test I was 74.25. Then, after giving treatment in cycle II, the students’ average score in post-test II was 88.61. The improvement of students’ score showed that the effectiveness of picture series was significant in improving students’ ability in writing procedure text.
