Abstract

The objectives of this research were to describe the process of improving students’ reading comprehension by using jigsaw technique on narrative text and to know the improvement of students’ reading comprehension through jigsaw technique at the eighth grade students of SMPN 17 Kota Serang at VIII D in academic year 2015/2016. The researcher used classroom action research (CAR) as a research methodology. This classroom action research was conducted in two cycles which consisted of two meetings in every cycle. Based on the observation, the process of improving students’ reading comprehension through Jigsaw technique was successful. The students were active and made the students felt enjoy in learning because students could discussed and shared their opinion about the text with the group. In addition, based on the research result there was improvement from pre-test to post test of cycle 1 and cycle 2. The students’ average score in pre-test was 56.87. The average score in the first cycle was 70.12 and in the cycle 2 was 88.37. From those findings it can be concluded that Jigsaw technique can improve students’ reading comprehension.
