Abstract

This research aims to reveals whether CSR can improve students’ reading comprehension in narrative text at eighth grade of SMP Islam Pariskian after implementing Collaborative Strategy Reading. This research was conducted by implementing the Classroom Action Research (CAR) which was conducted in two cycles. The subject of this research was eighth grade students of SMP Islam Pariskian in the academic year 2015/2016 with total number of student was 25 students consist of 9 males and 16 females. The instruments used in data collecting are test, observation, and documentation. The result of this study found that CSR had given improvement to students’ reading comprehension. The result showed that in the pretest, the average score of students is 60.48. however, the average score of students was improve to 87.2 on cycle I and 90.4 on cycle II. For teaching and learning process like students’ activity, in the cycle one, there were most of students’ did activity fully, then she conducted the next cycle to get the indicator. In the cycle II, all of students did the activity fully like work in the group. Teaching reading comprehension at narrative text through CSR strategy at eighth grade of SMP Islam Pariskian has been implemented appropriately by several steps. The steps are preview, Clink and Clunk, Get the Gist, and Wrap Up. Refering to the result of the research, it can be concluded that use Collaborative Strategic Reading is applicable to improve students’ reading comprehension achievement, the teaching and learning process, and students’ activities.
