Abstract

The objectives of the research were to find out the implementation of subtitled movie to improve students’ vocabulary mastery at eighth grade of Modern Islamic Boarding School Daar El-Istiqomah Kota Serang. The researcher used qualitative research implementing the classroom action research as the method. Classroom action research is a tool that used to help teachers to improve teaching practices by doing reflective process in order to find the solution of teaching problems in the class. The subject of the research was the students of class 8 D Junior High School in Islamic Boarding School of Daar El-Istiqomah academic years 2015/2016 which consisted of 20 students. There were two cycles and in every cycle consists of two meetings. The result of the research, there was an improvement using English subtitled movie in learning vocabulary which focused on verbs and adjectives. It can be seen from the progress of the students in it before and after the cycles conducted. The average score of pre-test was 62.75, post-test in cycle one was 73.25, and the average score of post-test in cycle 2 was 87.75. So, the students’ score percentage from pre-test to post test in cycle two was increased around 25%. It increased from the target. In conclusion, subtitled movie was effective to improve students’ vocabulary mastery which focused on verbs and adjectives. Key word: vocabulary, subtitled movie, classroom action research.
