Abstract

ABSTRACT Nama : Amat Setiawan NIM : 2322120146 Judul : Expressions Of Prohibition At Wanasalam Farmer Community: Culture Linguistic Analysis As Instruction High School Thesis : Indonesia Language Program, Post Graduate, Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University 2013 Expressions of prohibition used by farmer community in Wanasalam are interesting linguistic phenomena to be analysed. For example: they have unique form, function and meaning. Because of that, this research will discuss some problems namely: classification and form of prohibition expressions, their functions and meanings. Therefore, the aim of this research is to analyse and describe their linguistic structures, their function and meaning use of these expressions of prohibition. This research is qualitative and descriptive in nature and uses primary data directly obtained from source of data, that is farmer community district Wanasalam. Data is collected using observation method with conversation participation observation, recording, and note taking techniques, while note taking data is collected through observation method supported with note taking technique. The data is analysed by the method of matching and apportion then the result is presented with ethnography.. As the foundation, this research uses several theories, such as: Cultural Linguistic Theory synergized with Structural Theory (Ferdinand de Saussure) to analyse the Prohibition Expression Lingual Structure, Language Function Theory (Leech) to analyse Prohibition Expression Function, and Social Semiotic Theory (Halliday) to analyse Prohibition Expression Meaning. The research result shows that prohibition expressions are classified into (a) their existence in the community, (b) their order of formations, (c) their coverage of the usage, and (d) their topics. Based on that classification was found the marker of prohibition expressions in the form of negating phrase modality “ teukeng i ng” ‘can not’ with the variants and negative imperative word “ u l a h ” ‘no or don’t’. The form of prohibition expressions are sentences. Based on the number of their clauses, prohibition expressions are in the form of singular and plural sentences; based on the form prohibition expressions are declarative and imperative; 6 and based on the order of their subjects and predicates, prohibition expressions are in the form of common formula sentences, they are sentences with subject before predicate (S+P). In general, prohibition expressions function as control tool for Tabanan farmer community, while from language communicative function, these prohibition expressions state informational and directive functions. The meaning of prohibition expressions were found explicitly and implicitly. The explicit meaning is in accordant with the meaning of word the form it that can be seen in the dictionary, while the implicit meaning states education and etiquette, harmony in family, mysticism, mutual loves among living thing, environment conservation and cleanliness, leteh ‘spiritually dirty’, security and order, rejection of luck, balance and togetherness. Instruction of expression Ianguage of prohibition order ( Pamali) can be made upon which teach in senior high school specially in SMK for example word, frase, expression, and meaning. This matter as according to interest standard of 2.4 Membaca to comprehend the meaning of, morphology, expression, and sentence in context work. Despitefully expression of prohibition order ( pamali) as one of the local culture which express the nature of and positive attitude of society district Wanasalam specially and generally Sunda society.
