Abstract

ABSTRACT Dibyantanti, Nim: 2321120007. Influence of learning approaches and learning styles towards the mathematical problem-solving ability in class VII SMPN 20 Tangerang City – Thesis of Master Degree Program Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University. This research aims to implement realistic approach and Kolb model learning style toward ability of mathematical problem-solving in social aritmathic subject at class VII, 20th junior high school Tangerang City (SMPN 20 Tangerang) on 1st semester 2013/2014. Research method used is quasi experiment method with treatment design by 2x2 level, which take sample of 40 students and divided into 4 groups. Each group composed by 10 students. First group (A v 1 B 1 ), second group (A 1 B 2 ), third group (A 2 B 1 ), fourth group (A 2 B 2 ). Variable used in this research are learning approach (X 1 ) and style of study (X 2 ), dependent variable is mathematic problem solving ability (Y). Instrument used is non test instrument namely Kolb style of study questionnaire and mathematic problem solving ability instrument test. Analytical technique used is two paths ANAVA analysis with 5% significant extent. The result showed that: (1) Subsequent to the calculation obtained T calculated = 2.714 compared with the T table = 2.262, then T calculated = 2.714 > T table = 2.262, while the count was obtained 0.024 sig calculated. when compared with α = 0.05 sig table, then sig calculated < sig table. Based on these criteria both H 0 is rejected and H 1 is accepted. Then there are differences in mathematical problem-solving abilities among learners who learn with realistic approach and have accomodator learning styles and learners who learn with the mechanistic approach and have accomodator learning styles. (2) Subsequent to the calculation of T calculated = 3.087 obtained is then compared with the T table = 2.262, then T calculated = 3.087 > T table = 2.262, while the count was obtained 0.013 sig calculated. when compared with α = 0.05 sig table, then sig calculated < sig table. Based on these criteria both H 0 is rejected and H 1 is accepted. Then there are differences in mathematical problem-solving abilities among learners who learn with realistic approach and have assimilator learning styles and learners who learn with the mechanistic approach and have assimilator learning styles.
