Abstract

ABSTRACT Currency stability is a critical issue to stimulate economic activity and create economic growth of a country. Trade between countries resulting in currency exchange between countries are reflected in the exchange rate. The importance of the role of exchange rates for both the developad and developing countries. Which encourage the efforts to safeguard the position of the currency exchange rate of a country is in a state of relative stability. This study aimed to analyze the effect of monetary variables is money suplly, BI rate and inflation on the exchange rate before and after the subprime mortgage crisis. This study used multiple linear regression statistical tools to the test the hypothesis with the help of eviews 7. The variables used in this study is the exchange rate, total money supply,BI rate and inflation. the type of data used in the form of time series data are restricted to monthly data for each variable ranging from the period january 2003 to august 2013 period. The results showed that a variable money supply is positive and significant effect on the exchange rate. while the bi rate is negative and no significant effect on the exchange rate. And inflation is positive and no significant effect on the exchange rate. Keywords : money supply, BI rate, inflation, exchange rate, subprime mortgage crisis
