Abstract

ABSTRACT AN ANALYSIS OF GRAMMATICAL ERRORS IN WRITING DESCRIPTIVE TEXT MADE BY THE TENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMKN 1 KOTA SERANG IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2014/2015 Dyta Fitra Rosika 2223110281 This research aims to find out the types of errors in writing descriptive text and the sources of errors made by the tenth grade students of SMKN 1 Kota Serang in academic year 2014/2015. This research used case study design with descriptive qualitative method. The researcher took X Office Administration 1 class for her sample. The numbers of students in that class are thirty three students. The researcher analyzed students‟ writing descriptive text to find out the types of error made by the students. The frequency is 113 with 44%. The second, frequency of misformation is 95 with 37%. The third, frequency of addition is 27 with 11%. The lowest frequency is misordering errors. The frequency is 20 with 8%. Then, the reseacher also interviewed and English teacher and ten students who get the higest numbers of error and the lowest numbers of error in order to know the sources of error in writing descriptive text made by the students. Based on the result, the researcher identified that the errors can be happened on interlingual transfer and intralingual transfer. To avoiding those sources of error, they must more kept attention when the teacher explained about the materials. If they still did not undestand so, they could ask their teacher or friends who expert are of it. Furthermore, they also must study harder and did more exercises in writing or they could practice to speak English in their daily activities.
