Abstract
Mathematical problem solving can be interpreted as an activity to solve non-routine problems that are mathematical in nature by requiring prior knowledge to solve them. Guided discovery learning can be a viable alternative that places learning among students and teachers. The purpose of this study was to see the effect of guided discovery learning and mathematical prior knowledge on students' mathematical problem solving abilities. This research is a quantitative study with a quasi-experimental method. This research sample is students of class XI IPA in one of the high schools in Lebak regency, Banten province. The mathematical problem solving instrument refers to Sumarmo (2006) with the available indicators of problem solving. Statistical testing using two-way ANOVA. The results of the study show the influence of guided discovery learning models on mathematical problem solving abilities. Students with KAM are above average better than KAM students below the average in mathematical problem solving outcomes. The effect of guided discovery learning is better than conventional learning in achieving significant mathematical problem solving abilities for students with upper KAM, while students with lower KAM have not shown different influences.
