Abstract

ABSTRACT The Correlation between Students’ Reading Comprehension and Their Translation Ability of Eighth Grade at SMPN 8 Kota Serang By: Amikasari 2223092396 This study explored the correlation between students’ reading comprehension and their translation ability of eighth grade at SMPN 8 Kota Serang. The objective of the research is to find out whether there is any significant correlation between students’ reading comprehension and their translation ability. In this research, the writer conducted quantitative approach with ex-post facto design. The data was measured through Pearson Product Moment in order to see its correlation between X variable (Students’ reading comprehension) and Y variable (Students’ translation ability). The population of the research was the eighth grade students of SMPN 8 Kota Serang. In order to determine the sample, the writer used purposive sampling. The data was taken from VIII A that consists of 36 students on 4-5 February 2014. From the result of the research, the writer found that the coefficient correlation between X variable and Y variable or = 0,991. Based on r interpretation table, it indicated that the correlation between both of variables was in very high level of correlation. The hypothesis analysis was conducted by the writer found that the result of hypothesis analysis is higher than for N=36 at significance 95% or 17,86 ≥ 1,70. It means there is correlation between students’ reading comprehension and their translation ability or alternative hypothesis (Ha) received.
