Abstract

This research aimed to find any effect of ice-breaking on students’ motivation in learning English in eighth grade. Quantitative research method by implementing quasi-experimental study using Ice-breaking to increase students' motivation in learning English at eighth grade. In this study, 30 students in the experiment class and 30 students in the control class made up the sample. The data were collected using a questionnaire and pre-test post-test as instruments. The hypothesis testing was computed using the Independent sample t-test through SPSS 25.0. The calculations demonstrated a relationship between students' motivation in learning English and Ice-breaking as a technique. The p-value of 0.000 < 0.05 was determined from the data result using an Independent sample t-test. This demonstrates that the alternative hypothesis is accepted. Ice-breaking made the learning environment more enjoyable and energetic while learning English in class. Therefore, it can be concluded that Ice-breaking as a learning technique significantly influence the student's motivation to learn English.
