Abstract

One of industry which is currently in advanced development is the steel processing industry. The industry is located in Cilegon city – Banten. That is the largest steel processing industry in Indonesia. The waste produced is steel slag is a byproduct of the process of metal ores and it contains important material such as silica and alumina. These materials are some of the components contained in the cement as one of the ingredients of concrete manufacture. And tried as a partial replacement of cement to see whether it can have a positive impact on the concrete compression strength and modulus of elasticity. Normal concrete was planned in this research with 25 MPa of compression strength, 30-60 mm of slump and the value of using cement Ordinary Portland cement (OPC) type 1. The method of this research is to compare between the use of steel slag instead of cement with comprised by 10%, 15%, 20%, and 25% of the total weight of the concrete without cement mix proportions. With the amount of test objects as much as 60 pieces (3 test specimens for each testing period). These results indicate that the use of steel slag as a substitute of the total weight of the cement affected the compression strength and modulus elasticity concrete. Based on test results of concrete with a proportion of 10% successfully increased the compression strength and modulus of elasticity of the concrete without the mix proportions of 3.805% and 5.55%. As for the proportion of the others decrease in the proportion of 15% amounting to 7.415% and 4.95%. The proportion of 20% decreased by 17.344% and 20.20%. The proportion of 25% decreased by 28.722% and 21.98%. The optimum proportion of this research is 10%. Key Words : Steel Slag, Compressive Strength, Modulus of Elasticity
