Abstract

The development of Korean pop music culture which is increasingly prevalent throughout the world has brought an ideological change. The new ideology brought by the Korean Pop boyband directs its fans to the reinterpretation of the concept of "masculinity". Masculinity which was previously only associated with the appearance of "manly" or maleness and was represented by the male body and of course by its gender has now developed into a representation that includes symbolic aspects. So this study aims to find out how the meaning of masculinity constructed by boyband k-pop. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method with a cultural studies approach. The result of this study is the reinterpretation of masculine marks carried out by teenagers to produce a complete self-understanding of the adolescent as a sign interpreter even though the sign itself is unstable and not all parts are constructed by awareness in adolescents, however, teenagers project each sign in accordance with the truth that he believes.
